Cisco Engineering Organization: Graduate Software Engineer
Location: Galway, Ireland
The Opportunity
It’s an exciting time to work at Cisco. Our software is lighting up Unified Communications and breaking new ground in the area of Virtualization. We seek Graduate Engineers for the Software Engineering Team within the Cisco Collaboration & Communications Group to help us create the next generation of Unified Communications software and services.
A Graduate Software Engineer will be part of the Agile Software Development team contributing to some or all aspects of the Software Development Cycle from Product Definition and Architecture through software coding, build, test, solution deployment, customer rollout and post deployment support.
Primary Responsibilities, Skills and Attributes of successful candidates include:
• Deliver world-class, globally deployed Unified Communications Products.
• Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and be flexible
• Problem solving skills across multiple technologies and environments with strong investigation and troubleshooting skills
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, both written and oral in a highly collaborative Agile environment
• Software Development and Coding mainly in Multi-Threaded C++ on Windows and Linux.
• Additional coding skills in some or all of C/JSP/Java/JavaScript/HTML/Python
• Hands on testing of applications with a strong emphasis on Automation.
• Object Oriented Design methodologies and Software Design Principles delivered via an Agile process environment
• Demonstrate practical application of these attributes via project or intern work
Knowledge of the following areas would be an advantage:
• Experience on a Linux or cross-platform development environment
• Experience with TCP/IP based networking
• Cisco Certification and product knowledge
• Microsoft Certification and product knowledge
• Skills in one or more of the following scripting languages: Perl, Python, Shell, Bash, Ruby, Tcl
• Unified Communications protocols
• AJAX, JavaScript and web application development
• Virtualization technologies
• Knowledge of Browser Plug-ins
• Video Technologies
Education Requirements:
B.Sc. / B.Eng / M.Sc / M.Eng or equivalents in the areas of Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Software Development, Computer Networking, Electronics or other equivalent disciplines with an emphasis on Software Design practices.
Eligibility Requirements:
• Graduated with undergraduate or graduate level degree within 24 months of start date
• Legally entitled to live and work in European Union
• Must be fluent in English
Start Date: Flexible depending on academic schedule with opportunities available for Summer 2012

Job Title: Software Engineering Intern
Cisco is looking to recruit for Software Engineering Intern positions.
Core Competencies:
 Good communication skills, both written and oral.

 Have a passion for leading edge technologies.
The successful candidate will have some of the following skills:
 Knowledge and experience on Microsoft Windows™, Linux and Mac OS X Operating Systems.
 Knowledge of Networking and/or Communications protocols (IP, HTTP, SIP)
 Intermediate to advanced coding skills in some of Java, C#, JavaScript, C++, C, Perl, TCL
 Knowledge of Web Technologies e.g. HTML, Javascript, XML
 Object Oriented Design methodologies and S/W Design Principles.
 Experience installing, configuring and maintaining Information Systems (s/w and h/w).
 Strong investigation and troubleshooting skills.
 Experience with VMWare
The successful candidate will participate in a team of engineers and responsibilities may include:
 Hands on coding in Java, C#, C++, Javascript.
 Assist in software architecture development, prototyping, debugging and testing.
 Reviewing Product Feature Specifications and creating design documentation and Test Plans
 Installing and troubleshooting test environments (s/w, h/w and network infrastructure)
 Scripting and coding of test cases
 Creating and running test cases, finding defects and documenting test results
 Lab support including server installation, backup and replacement.
Education Requirements:
Students in the areas of Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Software Development, Computer Networking, Electronics or other equivalent disciplines with an emphasis on Software Design practices.
Eligibility Requirements:
 Applicants must currently be enrolled in a relevant technology undergraduate or postgraduate program
 Ability to live and work in the EU with no additional sponsorship from Cisco
 Must be fluent in English
Start Date: Flexible depending on academic schedule, ideally seeking candidates requiring a work placement as part of their degree program
