Central Statistics Office (CSO) Talk

The CSO are coming  to talk to our students next week about upcoming job opportunities for statisticians/data scientists.

It will take place next Wednesday, 4th March, in room B16 @ 11.

The CSO is part of the Civil Service but is run as an independent office under the aegis of Dept of An Taoiseach. The CSO collects, compiles and disseminates information for statistical purposes relating to economic, social and general activities and conditions in the State. The CSO meets the needs of Government for quality statistical information and also serves the needs of the wider national and international community for impartial and relevant information on social and economic conditions.
The CSO has 2 offices based in Dublin and its main headquarters is based in Cork. The CSO employs about 650 people of whom approx 100 are professional Statisticians/Data Scientists across the three offices.

Vacancies and job descriptions

The CSO plans to hold a competition in May 2015 to recruit Data Scientists, General Statisticians and Methodologists for our three offices. They also plan to recruit Statisticians/Data Scientists for other Government departments -these posts are generally in Dublin. Staff recruited from this competition can expect to work on any aspect of the cycle involved with Statistical production including such areas as survey design, data collection, data analysis including emerging work with big data, data publication and dissemination.
