Short Term post in DA available over the summer

The RTÉ Investigations Unit, through assistance with Dr Sarah Jane Delany is interested in hiring an individual with expertise in data analysis and data management. This position would be for a short-term basis.

Currently the RTE Investigations Unit is trialing the use and potential of data analytics in particular areas of investigative journalism.

We require somebody to assist us in assessing and building on a large volume of work already in place.  The objective would be to incorporate multiple datasets into a single coherent server-based SQL database.  We are hoping that this database can be queried across a range of criteria to identify patterns/outliers to guide research and to then follow threads of inquiry across multiple datasets.  This would need to be done in a way that can easily facilitate the addition of further datasets if the trial is successful.  The work would involve looking at how the data is structured, how it could be structured better and how best to maximise the investigative potential of the data. As part of this role, we would also require the database/dataset to be managed on an internal server.

This role is a paid role and we would require the interested candidate to be available to begin work from approximately May 16th.  We are very open to facilitating college obligations in relation to working hours.

If you wish to apply, or for more information, please contact John Cunningham on 0872633826 or by email: John.Cunningham@rte.ie

A copy of your CV and a paragraph on why working with the RTE Investigations Unit would interest you, would be appreciated.
