Sem2: Programming for Big Data

The programming for Big Data module will commence on Wednesday 30th January.

The first part of this module will consist of 4 weeks covering the core part of Hadoop and Map-Reduce.

You will need to have access to a Hadoop environment. There are many resources available online and many vendors provide sample Virtual Machines.

There is a basic Hadoop VM available. If you would like to use this VM then you should download the following file in advance of the class. I will show you how to setup this virtual machine during the first class.
Download VM file here. Download this file before coming to the first class.
You will also need to have VirtualBox installed and your operating system will need to support virtualisation. Please check this before Wednesday's class.
It is OK to use an alternative virtual machine or cloud service for this module.

To use this VM you will need approx 20G of download space and any additional space that you may require. I will go through this on Wednesday

Check out my module webpage, where you will find the links to the VM and to other module resources
