The School of Computer Science, TU Dublin (City Campus) currently has a position available for a Research Assistant B to assist with Research, Development and Analysis activities connected to the BullsEye Innovation Partnership Project.
Job Description
The School is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant (B) in Computing on a fixed term (6 months) specified purpose basis. The post holder will be required to carry out development and research activities connected to a project involving the 3D monitoring of animals. The post holder will be required to assist with the design, coding, deployment and testing of systems for data collection. The post holder will also be required to participate in the documentation of any artefacts created and contribute to the overall project’s development.
Principal Accountabilities
· Report to Principal Investigator, Postdoctoral researcher and other senior research team collaborators.
· Contribute to the research design in relation to the project.
· Assist with the design and implementation of a prototype for data collection in an outdoor environment.
· Participate in off-site visits to farms where data is to be collected.
· Assist with the assessment of different algorithmic solutions for the collection of data and its analysis.
· Prepare and present findings of research activity to colleagues for review purposes.
· Contribute to the overall activities of the research team and department as required.
· Work under supervision on an assigned research task.
· Be responsible for ensuring that equipment is safe and maintained in working order.
· Carry out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the PI.
· Manage time effectively to meet the deliverables of the project.
· Actively comply with all TU Dublin policies and regulations, including those in relation to Research Ethics and Health and Safety.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the appropriate mix of knowledge, experience, skills, talent and abilities as outlined below:
Knowledge
· An undergraduate B.Sc. (Hons) (NFQ level 8) in Computer Science or related numerate discipline. (essential)
· A completed MSc in Computing (desirable)
· Working knowledge of research techniques (essential)
· Working knowledge of software development methods including containerization (desirable)
Experience
· 2 years of relevant experience working in industry (essential)
· Evidence of experience working in a research environment (desirable)
· Evidence of ability to analyse, statistically review and technically report analytical data.

Salary
· The successful candidate will be appointed at Point (01) of the Research Assistant B salary scale i.e. 29,649 gross per annum. (Position is for 6 months).
