Research Assistant (B)  positions (x 3) in CO/SMID Project

The Environmental Sustainability and Health Institute (ESHI), TU Dublin (City Campus) currently has three positions available for Research Assistant B to assist with Research, Development and Analysis activities connected to the CO/SMID (COVID-19 – Space-Time Scanning, Mobility and Intervention Diagnostics Project. Job Description
The Institute is seeking to appoint three Research Assistants (B) in Computing on a fixed term (3 months) specified purpose basis, with the potential for extension depending on funding and performance. Post holders will be required to carry out development and research activities connected to a project involving geo-statistical analyses and machine learning of a large epidemiological dataset (COVID-19). Post holders will be required to assist with the design, coding, deployment, testing and validation of statistical and machine learning models. Post holders will also be required to participate in overall project development and reporting.

Principal Accountabilities
•      Report to Principal Investigator, Postdoctoral researcher and other senior research team collaborators.
•      Contribute to research design in relation to the project.
•      Assist with the design and implementation of statistical, geostatistical and/or machine learning models.
•      Assist with collection, validation and georeferencing of additional open-access data and its analysis.
•      Prepare and present findings of research activity to colleagues for review purposes.
•      Contribute to the overall activities of the research team and department as required.
•      Work under supervision on an assigned research task.
•      Carry out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the PI.
•      Manage time effectively to meet the deliverables of the project.
•      Actively comply with all TU Dublin policies and regulations, including those in relation to Research Ethics and Health and Safety.

Person Specification
The ideal candidates will demonstrate the appropriate mix of knowledge, experience, skills, talent and abilities as outlined below:

Knowledge
•      An undergraduate B.Sc. (Hons) (NFQ level 8) in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or related numerate discipline. (essential)
•      A completed MSc in Data Analysis or Computing (desirable)
•      Working knowledge of research techniques (essential)
•      Working knowledge of R/RStudio or Python (essential)
•      Working knowledge of GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) (desirable)

Experience
•      Evidence of experience working in a research environment (desirable)
•      Evidence of experience working with epidemiological/health-related data (desirable)
•      Evidence of ability to analyse, statistically review and technically report analytical data (desirable).

Salary
•      The successful candidate will be appointed at Point (01) of the Research Assistant B salary scale i.e. 29,649 gross per annum. (Positions are for 3 months in the first instance).
